Michio Suzuki (1887–1982) established the Suzuki Loom Works in the small Japanese seaside community of Hamamatsu in 1909. Suzuki believed that diversification would assist his company, despite the success of his looms, and he began to look at other items. He decided that developing a little car would be the most realistic new endeavor based on consumer demand. Suzuki began work on the project in 1937, and within two years, he had created several miniature prototype cars.

Suzuki’s company had formally changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. by 1954, when he was producing 6,000 motorcycles per month. Suzuki produced an even more popular automobile after the success of his first motorcycle: the 1955 Suzuki Suzulight. Volkswagen was compelled by an international arbitration court to sell the interest back to Suzuki. In September 2015, Suzuki paid $3.8 billion to complete the stock buyback.

The Suzuki Loom Company began in 1909 as a manufacturer of silk and cotton weaving looms. Suzuki produced a two-stroke-powered bicycle after the war, but the business is most known for the Hayabusa and GSX-R bikes, the QuadRunner, and dominating racetracks all over the world. Even though the business produced its first car in 1955, it did not have an automobile section until 1961.  Suzuki is now one of the leading manufacturers in the world.

The Samurai was also released in 1985 for the 1986 model year, and it was the first car produced by the newly formed American Suzuki Corp. in the United States. Suzuki sold more automobiles in the United States in its debut year than any other Japanese automaker.
