About Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, or simply Mitsubishi Motors, is a multinational Japanese vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Minato, Tokyo. Mitsubishi Motors was the sixth-largest Japanese manufacturer in 2011 and the 19th-largest global carmaker in terms of production. In the summer of 2009, Mitsubishi Motors began selling its I MiEV, an all-electric minicar with a lithium-ion battery pack buried beneath the floor, to retail consumers, a year ahead of plan. The automaker had planned to begin leasing the minicar-based vehicle to enterprises and municipalities in the summer of 2009, with a retail launch scheduled for 2010. It also stated that it intends to provide five more e-drive automobiles.
By fiscal 2012, Mitsubishi Motors hopes to reduce the price of its electric vehicles to 2 million yen ($21,890), a 30 percent reduction. Mitsubishi has nearly 50 years of international motorsport history, which predates MMC’s inception. Starting with street races in the early 1960s, the firm became increasingly interested in the challenge of off-road racing.
