About Infiniti
Nissan’s luxury automobile subsidiary, Infiniti, is located in Japan. On November 8, 1989, Infiniti began selling vehicles in North America for the first time. In the 2010s, the marketing network for Infiniti-branded vehicles includes dealers in more than 50 countries. There will be 25 markets supplied by new automobile dealers by 2020. The Infiniti brand was launched in the United States in 1989 to target premium vehicle categories that would not otherwise fit into Nissan’s more mainstream image and was motivated in part by the Plaza Accord of 1985. The Infiniti brand was debuted with two vehicles, the Q45, and the M30, which were previously sold through the Nissan Motor Store network in Japan. The Q45 was built on the all-new second-generation Nissan President platform, which had a five-millimeter shorter wheelbase at 2,875 millimeters (113.2 in). Starting in 1992, the wheelbase was the same as the President’s, at 2880 mm (113.4 in). Models
Infiniti’s previous model names consisted of one letter for coupes and sedans, two letters for SUVs, and a number that indicated engine displacement. The QX56, for example, was an SUV with a 5.6L engine. The QX4 SUV was an exception, with a 3.3L engine from 1996 to 2000 and a 3.5L engine from 2000 to 2003. Infiniti sedans with an “x” after the engine displacement indicated all-wheel drive (e.g., Infiniti G35x), “s” indicated a sport package, “h” indicated a hybrid vehicle, and “d” indicated a diesel type.
Infiniti’s model designations were altered in 2013 to include coupes and sedans beginning with the letter Q, SUVs, and crossovers beginning with the letters QX, and a number indicating the model’s position in the brand lineup. Infiniti began producing automobiles outside of Japan with the QX60 crossover (previously known as the JX35). In 2014, it began producing two models in Xiangyang, China, at a plant run by a joint venture between Nissan and Dongfeng Motor.
Simultaneously, Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK expanded in Sunderland, England, to create the Q30, a new compact automobile.
