About Genesis

Genesis Motor, LLC, also known as Genesis and romanized as Jenesiseu), is the premium automobile division of Hyundai Motor Group, based in South Korea. Originally conceived in 2004 as part of Hyundai’s plans for a new luxury Genesis sedan, the Genesis brand was officially unveiled as an independent marque on November 4, 2015, with the Genesis G90 being the first Genesis standalone model to be released in 2017.

Hyundai created “Concept Genesis” in 2003 and released its first model in 2007. According to reports, Genesis Motor was ranked top in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study in June 2018. Genesis debuted in the European market in May 2021, together with the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake. South Korea, China, the Middle East, Russia, Canada, Australia, the United States, Europe, and the rest of Asia are now marketing Genesis.

The Genesis G90, the brand’s flagship model, was the first Genesis vehicle to be sold in South Korea. The brand debuted in the United States in late 2016, with two models: the G80 (formerly known as the Hyundai Genesis) and the G90 (previously sold as the Hyundai Equus). The Genesis G70, a third model, was introduced in Namyang, South Korea, on September 14, 2016. On March 28, 2018, the G70 was unveiled to the public in the United States at the 2018 New York Auto Show.

The GV80, the brand’s first SUV, made its official premiere on January 14, 2020. Genesis introduced the Electrified G80, their first production electric vehicle, in April 2021. Genesis debuted three new vehicles at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition in 2021, including the Electrified G80.

Global leader and executive vice president Jaehoon (Jay) Chang. The chief creative officer is Luc Donckerwolke, a former design director for Volkswagen companies Bentley, Lamborghini, and Audi. Claudia Marquez, a former senior director of sales operations at Infiniti, is Genesis North America’s chief operating officer. Genesis Motor China is led by Markus Henne, a former vice president at Mercedes-Benz.

Head of design is Sang-Yup Lee, who previously worked on the Bentley Continental GT and the C-6 Chevrolet Corvette. Filippo Perini, a former Lamborghini design director, is the company’s principal designer.
