Honda began manufacturing in the United States in 1979, with the opening of its first factory in Marysville, Ohio. Honda now has 12 manufacturing facilities in the United States. Since 1982, Honda has produced 26.1 million automobiles and light trucks in the United States. The American Honda Motor Company, Inc. (often abbreviated as AHM) is the Honda Motor Company, Ltd.’s North American subsidiary.
It was established in 1959. The company is responsible for the distribution, marketing, and sales of Honda and Acura brand automobiles, Honda power sports products, such as motorcycles, scooters, and all-terrain vehicles, and Honda power equipment products, such as lawnmowers, tillers, string trimmers, generators, small-displacement general-purpose engines, and marine outboard engines in North America.
The Accord, Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Element, Clarity Fuel Cell, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline are all Honda vehicles. The RL, TLX, RLX, ILX, MDX, RDX, TSX, TL, and ZDX are Acura vehicles. Honda has a number of firsts in the United States for a Japanese automaker. The business was the first to establish a subsidiary in the country to promote and sell its vehicles, as well as the first to build cars in North America.

In 1970, Honda launched passenger cars to the North American market with the Honda N600 sedan, which was sold through 32 dealers across the western United States. The first Honda car was sold and retired at the same dealership, Manly Honda in Santa Rosa, California; yet, sales of the vehicle and its successor, the Z600 coupe, were barely 20,000 units in 1972. Lightweight, fuel-efficient cars, on the other hand, saw a boom in demand during the 1970s energy crisis.
The Honda Civic was released in 1973 and quickly became popular in the United States, resulting in a considerable expansion of Honda’s market share in the United States. By 1976, Honda had 630 dealerships, and the Civic was followed by the Accord hatchback, which was the best-selling passenger car in the United States between 1990 and 1992.
In 1977, Honda teamed up with J.D. Power and Associates to conduct a satisfaction study of its dealers and consumers in the United States. The J.D. Power and Associates Customer Satisfaction Index were created as a result of the program. Following the success of the Accord with middle-class buyers, Honda introduced the Acura brand in 1986, making it the first Japanese carmaker to join the luxury car market.
With its Integra and Legend model lines, Acura became America’s best-selling import luxury marque in 1987. To set itself apart from Honda, the business established a second, entirely new dealer network, requiring Acura dealerships to be at least 10 miles (16 kilometers) from existing Honda outlets and to invest $3 million to get started.
